![]() If you need to look at our other Aether Current maps, you’ll find them below: For the purposes of the map below, everything in the Shroud of the Samgha region is off-limits until later in the story. When you return to Thavnair later in the story, you’ll be able to access the second half of the map and the latter three quests that will allow you to unlock flight. You can collect five of them, and two currents tied to quests. The first time will only cover half of the map and you won’t be able to get all of the aether currents. One thing to note is that Thavnair is one of two maps that you’ll visit twice. It’s led by the satrap, the ruler of the shining, colorful city of Radz-at-Han. This island nation has long been at the forefront of the world’s trade. The first major region players will come across is Old Sharlayan, the new hub city, but right behind that is Thavnair. It’s a one-time hunt that tends to be forgotten outside of launch weeks. These whirling orbs of wind dot the landscape in new maps, and only by finding all of them can you break your shackles and fly free. Again, with the side quests, you'll get an Unlock quest icon when it's available.įollow main story, Aether Currents are now in line with main story, Look for NPC that have the Unlock quest icon for the quest based ones.If you’re a veteran player of Final Fantasy XIV, you probably forget all about the Aether Currents in-between expansions. No, you don't need to have all side quests done. I do know that Beastmen Dailies do require it (Huge Chunks of Exp lost if you choose to ignore these.) I don't really remember if you're required to fly for any of the 3.0 MSQ (Except Azys Lla). The only confusing zone would be Sea of Clouds. I recently created an alt to play with a friend, and it's a lot more fluid than it was originally set up. If you can't find the quest, open your map and look for the unlock symbol quests. ![]() You'll get an achievement the moment you've collected all of them for a particular zone.įollow the main quest and a few side quests and use your compass. Use the compass you were given in the MSQ (Key Item) and it'll direct you to where to find it. It's good to note that they changed the locations of the open world currents to closer follow the MSQ. It will tell you if they're quest based, or if you have to find them in the open. There will be 2 rows for each except Azys Lla. Under the Travel menu, there's Aether Currents listed. You'll know when you unlocked everything, it gives a big message. Sea of Clouds is different, because its both the first and later one of the lasy zones you go to. Its design so that you'll unlock flying once you've "finished" the zone. The final one, quest wise, is almost always a dungeon MSQ, which then leads you to the next zone. You will usually get a couple from the MSQ itself, and three from quests unlocked by the MSQ, most often right near the MSQ quest giver. The quest reward ones are all Plus-Sign quest icons, so you know they are important. You can get nearly all without deviating from the main story. As you are walking around doing the quest, use the compass (you saw your compass, right?) and it'll tell you how far to get one. Nearly all the 'random world ones' are very near where the MSQ takes you naturally. The yellow ones, 5 in each zone, are from quest rewards. The green diamonds, of which there are more, are the ones you randomly find the area. Travel -> Aether Currents shows you how many you have.
